Originally, he was a character intended to be a dog; but, when Papa Roy (my grandfather) saw him, he said, "He's muley lookin', ain't he?" I figured, 'He's a farmer, he says it's a mule - it's a mule!' Thus, he was named Muley because, at 6 years old, I suppose a good name was taking what it was and adding a "Y" at the end.
There are two or three earlier drawings of Muley, one went to my Aunt June (Johnson), but the earliest drawing I still have is below and a comic strip for Muley's 40th.
