Screaming Tiki Con Chapter 2 - The Hotels

Tiki Con - Chapter Two: The Hotels

This is a quick update with very short tales. We arrived late on that Thursday night to the Avalon Inn. It is a fantastic place, very nice, very big, and wonderful. And WOW! What a great staff: friendly, helpful, fun, and will joke with you. I felt really at home 99.9% of the time. I'm thankful for such a great place to stay.

But, at night, it can remind you that there should be twins in the hall, a kid on a tricycle, a man named "Johnny" chopping his way into your bathroom, and "redrum" written on your mirror (which I did to the one in my room).

The elevator (like mine) doesn't go all the way to the top; but, it goes further up. It goes to a 2-1/2 floor level, and you have to be careful which button you push as it will open up the doors behind you to a dark, dark unused-in-a-while room. I freaked out a little expecting vampires or zombies coming after me. Ghosts--I'd welcome that, they can't hurt you. The other things bite! Anyway, got off on the floor, but there's a little 1/2-flight down to the second floor to get to the room.

The rooms were extremely comfortable, huge with big beds! Such spacious rooms, in fact, that Martheus, Janet, Marco and I rehearsed the live Muley Show, "Muley's Tiki Talent Revue," in the room. There were TV's which were easy to navigate with clear reception, a wonderful working airconditioning system, CLEAN bathrooms--yes, a great place to stay. The balcony also gave us room to perform the puppets over to the crowds that gathered in the beautiful lobby.

Do you see the twins in the hallway? No? Just me? Sorry 'bout that.

There were fun dance parties at night. Here, you can see Zach, Martheus, me and Janet all jukin' to some cool song. Marco was there also, but he was taking pictures so he's on the other side of the image you see below.

It was a great week's stay at a great hotel and I highly recommend it (just don't get on the elevators at night).

Fast forwarding, after the convention DaMarco and I went up to Zach's hometown of Buffalo, NY, with plans to go see Niagara Falls the following Monday. We stayed in Rodeway Inn which had a helpful, friendly crew, the room was spacious enough for the two of us and had free WiFi! YAY! Ha ha.

It was a comfortable place, but it would allow outside noise into the rooms. At about 2 a.m. there was a truck load of cheerleaders who pulled up and entered the room right next to us, letting the door slam shut as they walked in and out unlaoding their van. GRRR! Luckily, they stopped before I went out to tell them to shaddup!

Coming up: Pictures from Friday at Screaming Tiki Con, followed by Saturday, Sunday, the trip to Buffalo, and Niagara Falls!

But, before we go, if you're in the Memphis, TN, area and need some electrical work, I would HIGHLY suggest Scott at Power Source Electric, LLC. Give him a call at 901-210-2708.

Hope all is well in your world!!

Tiki Con - Chapter 1: The Trip

It's taken a little while, but I hope to have a frequent update on the trip to Niles, OH, and Tiki Con. Muley & Co. and the MAW Productions team went to visit old friends, make new friends, and have some really great panel discussions--we'll touch on all that soon.

First, let's discuss the trip and show some pictures (not necessarily in order). There were a few times near Louisville where it was a little worse than driving in Memphis; and then roads in Ohio were a bit confusing (details below). Here, you see me at the wheel. I have a tendency to talk a lot and look at the person I'm talking to...

In this case, it was passenger DaMarco Randle.

So, you get Martheus Wade and I together and you will have an adventure. Anytime we leave anywhere together and at the same time, it is an adventure. Let me explain:

At one point, we were traveling north on an Ohio highway, and a digital sign beneath an overpass read "Accident Ahead, Detour Now." So, we follow traffic on the off-ramp and are heading east. After a long time we see nothing but woods and plains, so we turned around and go west over the bypass to a McDonald's. The guy there tells us to turn out right (headed west again) and then take another right (headed north) on the road by the town hall. We did. We did that and all on this trip will testify to the truth of this: We ended up SOUTH of the bypass that told us to detour, and now there is no sign and no accident and traffic is flowing freely. No joke. We were in the Twilight Zone!

These pictures aren't in order since the "Welcome to Tennessee" image would be on the trip home, but this represents the states we visited except for New York which (somehow) we missed that sign!

We ain't Harold and Kumar, but we ate at White Castle. It's the same as Krystal's in Memphis. Nothing to holler home about.

But, I was hungry and it was good.

Marco likes french fries, oui he do.

So, that's a recap of the trip so far. Stay 'tooned for more updates in pictures coming here soon!

Kev on Fox 13 News

So, I've been a good boy for the past 20 years and suddenly get nervous when friends call me up saying, "I just saw you on the news!" Well, here is the latest image to show up on the local news. Apparenly, good ol' Les Smith from Fox 13 News made the trip in June to Metropolis, IL, and did a report on the Superman Celebration. While I couldn't be there this year (I went to Screaming Tiki Con in Niles, OH), this image shows up around 3:52 into the news story. You can watch the news clip here.

In this picture with me are the original Lois Lane, Noel Neill, and her biographer and friend, Larry Ward. Both are the most wonderful people you could meet! I hope to see them again sometime soon.
