Captain Davis' Nose Color Voter Results

First of all, don't forget this Friday's event for the Open Dress Rehearsal for the play "SuperMule and the Cookie Caper."

Secondly, the results of the votes are in:
1 for Brown, 2 for each Orange and Red, 3 each for Blue and Green, 4 each for Peach and Pink, and the winner by a total of 6 votes:

We'd like to thank the following for participating in the voting, all of whose names were put in a bucket to draw out one who will win the original orange nose and a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Kevin L. Williams, Muley the Mule and Captain Davis:

DaMarco Randle, Beth Kelly, Danny Chamberlain, Matt Sinclair, Zachary Haumesser, Michael Armstrong, brandon Bennett, Matthew Krygier, Lisa McGeorge, Gabe Velez, Alexandria Millerick, Julio Robles, Bonnie Davis, Sam Davis (Captain Davis' namesake!), Charles Ettinger, Marvin Chevallier, Cindy Chapman, Trevor Hawkins, and Angela Freeman.

The discussions were interesting:  Blue to match the suit; red to compliment the blue and yellow, but not red because a red nose looks like someone who drinks a lot; not pink because with the brown mustache it looks like the Swedish Chef...lots of good points were made.  "Peach, because you can make peach fuzz jokes" or "Brown, because he brown nosed his way to the top" were fun jokes, but it all boils down to the votes being purple.

Now, all the names were put into a pot and the winner is:

Sorry, I got the paper wet, but it is for Matt, so...
Soon, Matt, but not before Superman Celebration, you'll receive the original nose with the Certificate of Authenticity.  We'll contact you soon.

Thanks for playing, gang!  See (most of) you Friday!

"SuperMule and the Cookie Caper": Open Dress Rehearsal

So, you are one of the unlucky few who can't make it to Metropolis, IL, for the Superman Celebration to see "SuperMule and the Cookie Caper?"  Well, fear not fair citizens as your hero of the hour, SuperMule, will fly in from Bonnieville bringing his 20 minute show to Memphis, TN, on Friday, June 1, 2012, in an Open Dress Rehearsal.

Where is this great thing going to happen?  In the art gallery of West Memorials located at 2481 Broad Avenue, Memphis, TN 38112 at 6:30 pm (click here for map).  Before the show, we'll have a discussion about puppetry from Kevin L. Williams.  After the show we'll do a meet-n-greet with the characters and performers.   Bring your favorite snack food, drinks, and lawnchairs for this informal event.

What to expect: It's a dress rehearsal--we may be stopping the show mid-stream to correct some action or direction, there will be some live "flubs" here and there, props may break down...this is the FUN version of getting ready for a show and sometimes just as much fun as the actual show itself.

So, if you're free Friday, June 1, 2012, come on down at 6:30 to West Memorials located at 2481 Broad Avenue, Memphis, TN 38112 for this open dress rehearsal of "SuperMule and the Cookie Caper!"

Best of all, the ticket prices fit everyone's budget:  FREE!!   Hope to see you there, and stay...SUPER!

Door Prize!  A signed 11x17" print of the play poster--you can't beat that!

Introducing: Captain Davis!

Greetings, good-doers, and welcome to the site and the introduction to Captain Davis, a member of the Bonnieville Police Force who happens to supply SuperMule with details of activities that only a superhero such as SuperMule can attend.

Where can you meet the introduction of Captain Davis in person?  Why, at the premiere of "SuperMule and the Cookie Caper" in Metropolis, IL's, Superman Celebration!  You can find out more, including the schedule for Muley and Turra, by clicking here!

A bit of trivia:  Captain Davis is named after my stepfather, Sam Davis, who also provides the audio track for the character's performance.  Sam also appeared in a comic strip a while back as owner of "Sam's Quick Tune" to which Muley and Buford push a piano for the wrong kind of tuning.

UPDATE: After some discussion around here, the Captain Davis character looks too much like Bert from Sesame Street with his yellow skin and orange nose; so, we're changing that, and you get to help! Please comment (below) on your favorite nose color OR list your favorite nose color on the album comments by Wednesday, May 31, 2012, and we'll put all names commenting on this in a bucket to choose one participant who will win the original orange nose and receive a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Kevin L. Williams, Muley the Mule and Captain Davis himself!

Donald "Duck" Dunn - November 24, 1941 - May 13, 2012

Everyone who knows us knows that our favorite music was brought about by having seen The Blues Brothers on SNL in the late 70's, and part of that musical heaven was Donald "Duck" Dunn, bassist for the band, with roots in Memphis, TN, from STAX with Booker T. and the MG's.  We're saddened to learn of his passing today, the first loss in the Blues Brothers band since Jake passed in 1982.

Bass will never sound as sweet again.

Marvel's 'The Avengers'

We saw the Avengers and it is the most fun movie we've seen.  It's got everything you'd expect from a superhero movie, and we hope to see more of these characters working together as well.

But, as an observation of this movie, other superhero films, watching Smallville all those years (thanks for the lame-o season finale!)...

Never live in a city with superheros.  Lots of damage, collateral damage, death, bad politics, carnage, evil, and more.  And you just KNOW the insurance premiums are through the roof.

We'll just stay in Memphis for now, where there is only death, bad politics, and evil.

Sunday Blessings

Ever notice when people sneeze, they never really sneeze only once.  Usually, they sneeze twice or more.  Sometimes, from force of habit, we say, "Bless you."  Personally, I say "Bless you" once and "God bless you" the second time.  But, not quite sure what to say after the third one.  Hence, this comic strip.  Gesundheit.
